Isla Mujeres is a tiny island 8 miles to the north of Cancun. Though close to the busy tourist destination of Cancun, life slows down considerably once you step onto the sandy, white beaches of this 5 mile long island. Historically Isla Mujeres is a fishing village. Even though the island has been discovered by vacation-seekers, it has managed to retain it's tropical charm and tranquil atmosphere. The Diving
The diving around Isla Mujeres has something for everyone. There are numerous wrecks to explore for those who enjoy navigating around structures and seeing the prolific fish life attracted to these artificial reefs. Underwater limestone formations are found in several sites offering unique topography and providing shelter for reef fish, sleeping nurse sharks, and tons of lobsters! Punta Sur is an advanced dive site where you can encounter stronger currents that attract large pelagics, sharks, turtles, and the occassional pod of playful dolphins! Perhaps the most interesting and unique feature found here are the schooling sailfish. These magnificent creatures are one of the ocean's most beautiful hunters, gathering in deep water to feed on the huge schools of baitfish.
