doubles mini-course

Have you ever been curious about diving a double tank configuration?  This is a short evening course designed to introduce a certified diver to the use of a double tank configuration in diving.  It also introduces the diver to the general UTD equipment configuration.  Some rudimentary practice of air sharing skills is included. The class starts with a brief lecture on the key points of diving in doubles, then progresses to a quick walk through of the equipment configuration and then finally a pool dive where the diver can practice buoyancy, trim and other skills as desired.

This is not a certification course but it is a prerequisite to using doubles in the Recreational Helitrox course.  It is also a great way to get a feel for diving in doubles prior to taking Intro to tec.

Cost: $30
Mask and fins are required for the class.

Essentials of Tech

Intro to Tech begins to cultivate the critical skills needed by a diver aspiring to all forms of technical training, cave, wreck and decompression diving.  The student will be taught precision buoyancy skills, team awareness and controlled ascent techniques in preparation for further training.  The student will also be familiarized with the UTD/DIR/Hogarthian equipment configuration and the beginnings of gas and dive planning.

This is the entry point into the UTD technical diving program and a prerequisite to further technical training.

The class is conducted entirely in doubles and a drysuit and you will gain skills in using these vital tools.  No matter whether or not you chose to go on with your technical training, this course will sharpen your skills as a diver making you more comfortable, confident and enable you to focus on having FUN!

More information can be found on UTD's website here.

Cost: $400
Includes: One 4-hour classroom session, two 3-hour pool sessions, 5 open water dives, and certification card
Does NOT include: Rental equipment, UTD membership, or materials

Technical Diver

The UTD Technical diver program is divided into two classes Tech 1 and Tech 2.

Tech 1 is focused on developing the diver's critical bottom skills with the introduction of failure and contingency management. The diver will also be trained in the use of helitrox as a bottom mix and 100% O2 as a deco gas.  The course finishes with a pair of decompression dives planned and executed by the student.

Cost: $600
Includes: One 4-hour classroom session, two 3-hour pool sessions, 8 open water dives (6 are critical skills dives involving failures and contingencies and 2 are experience dives involving accelerated decompression on O2), and certification card.
Does NOT include: Rental equipment, UTD membership, or materials

Tech 2 extends the bottom skills practice with additional mid-water training and adds a deep stage bottle to the decompression bottle. Contingency training with the stage, blue water ascent training and additional critical skills training are features of this course. The course adds an additional helitrox gas and another decompression gas to the student's repertoire.

Essentials

The UTD essentials course is designed to teach the open water recreational diver advanced propulsion techniques, buoyancy control, gas planning and other skills that will help develop additional comfort and confidence in the water so you can focus on having FUN!  Everyone from newly minted open water divers to grizzled instructors can benefit from this fresh approach to diving.  Photographers and videographers will especially appreciate the detailed training in propulsion & precision buoyancy control that assists you in getting that perfect shot!  This class is also a prerequisite to the Recreational Helitrox class.

Recreational Helitrox

With the increasing availability of helium in many diving locations, recreational divers engaged in deeper diving in the 100'-130' range have become interested in this gas to help alleviate the effects of narcosis and reduce the decompression stress that nitrogen rich gases impose.  Until now, training in its use has been limited to technical divers.  This course will train you in the use of Heliotrox, an oxygen rich helium mixture that allows extended bottom times and a clear head in the 100-130' range.  The class is conducted completely within nodecompression
limits and can be done in a single tank (high capacity) or a set of doubles at the diver's discretion.  The student will benefit tremendously in their everyday diving activities from the rich skill set and dive planning skills taught in this course.

Scooter / DPV

This course is designed to teach the recreational diver the basics of diver propulsion vehicle/scooter operation, maintenance and contingency procedures.  This also includes proper scooter dive planning procedures.  If you have ever wanted to extend your range with one of these vehicles, this is a great class for you.  If you do not own one, a rental scooter can be provided.
