The Program
Ocean First Divers is offering a customized Scuba certification exclusively to Kent Denver students. The certification process has three steps: Knowledge Development, Confined Water Training and Open Water Dives.
Knowledge Development
The first step in becoming a SCUBA Diver is gaining a better understanding of the underwater realm. This is achieved by taking a comprehensive on-line course. The course is self-paced and consists of interactive knowledge delivery and progressive assessment. The average time to complete the program is 12 hours. Once you have completed the on-line course you will participate in four additional hours of classroom lectures presented at Ocean First Divers (OFD). These lectures are designed to give you an opportunity to discuss your newly gained SCUBA knowledge with your Kent peers and one of OFD's professional Scuba Instructors. These lectures will coincide with your Confined Water Training
Confined Water Training
The next stage of your SCUBA certification is the Confined Water Dives in OFD's pool. You will need to complete the two pool sessions in sequence. In the first session you will complete a basic swim assessment consisting of treading water. We then slowly begin to familiarize you with basic SCUBA equipment and how it is used. All skills are introduced in the shallow end of the pool before progressing to the deep end. Once we have completed the basic skills, we will venture into the deep end, where you will experience the sensation of neutral buoyancy for the first time. In the second session we pick up where you left off, refining your buoyancy and practicing other advanced skills. We also spend time training you to work in buddy teams to accomplish tasks as well as assisting each other with simulated problems. By the end of the pool sessions you will be ready to take your new skills to the open water.
Open Water Dives
Once you have mastered the Knowledge Development and the Confined Water Training your are ready to take the plunge into the Open Water. Ocean First Divers offers several great options for finishing your certification. We currently have limited availability on our Kent Denver trip to Isla Mujeres, Mexico! We also offer short getaways to the Florida Keys, and local training in a geothermal spring at the Homestead Crater in Midway, Utah. If you are already planning your own beach vacation, OFD will give you the required referral paperwork to take along so you can complete your checkout dives at your chosen destination.
